Carolyn Kerns

Priestess, Village Witch

Hi, I’m Carolyn, I use she/her pronouns, and I am a priestess and witch practicing in Duluth, MN (located in 1854 Treaty territory on  the contemporary and ancestral homelands of the Annishinaabeg, Lakota, and Dakota peoples). I grew up here on the shore of Lake Superior (gitchi gami), and though I’ve left many times I’ve returned home again and again. I am a far flung child of the Italian diaspora on my mother’s side, and a descendant of the British Isles on my father’s. I am the blood of witches, and I walk the path of the Gods.

Over the years my studies have earned me a BA in World Religions from Macalester College and an MDiv from Starr King School for the Ministry at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley; I’ve worked as a teacher, a chaplain, a waitress, a stay at home parent, and a professional witch. In the course of doing this work in life it’s become obvious that White settler folk like me come from broken lineages, and are living on stolen land in generationally harmful ways. So in the summer of 2022 I opened up The Village Witch— my magical work/shop in the heart of Canal Park—as a container and refuge for the question: how do we do better?

It’s a space dedicated to celebrating folks’ personal spiritualities and accountability to our complex histories of harm. While the space reflects my own pathways and tradition, I am passionate about supporting folks exploring their own journey in the Sacred, in order that we live into our fullest and highest selves. Rooted in our own spiritual authority, we lean in to collective liberation.

“Dedications”,  this year-long course of community inquiry and practice, flows directly from this position in the world.

I’m deeply excited to be developing and co-facilitating this course with Iris, and looking forward to this Sacred experience with y’all!
